Kelly K. Basey

Professional Activities/Organizations:

Kelly Basey completed undergraduate degrees in Spanish and Journalism at Oklahoma State University in 1988. She then lived in Madrid, Spain, where she taught International Business English for two years. Upon returning to the States, Mrs. Basey attended the University of Oklahoma School of Law, and graduated with honors in 1995. For 12 years, Mrs. Basey served the citizens of Oklahoma as an Assistant District Attorney in Oklahoma County. For six of those years, she took on the role of lead prosecutor in the Drug Court program, and it grew from 120 participants to over 350 participants in that time. She also founded and chaired the Task Force for the creation of the Oklahoma County Mental Health Court, the sixth such court in the United States. She served on the respective Advisory Boards of both the Drug Court and the Mental Health Court, and volunteered her time to teach emergency survival Spanish courses for the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office.

She has been a frequent speaker for Continuing Legal Education, Oklahoma Bar Association Lawyers in the Classroom, Mental Health Conferences, Judicial Conferences, Legislative Committees, the Latino Community Development Agency, and various middle schools and high schools across the state.

Mrs. Basey was the 2005 recipient of the Distinguished Public Service Citation from the Oklahoma Psychological Association, the Innovator of the Year Award for the Mental Health Task Force, and the Citation of Appreciation from the Oklahoma House of Representatives. She serves on the Board of Directors for Girl Scouts and is a founding member of the Juliette Low Society, which provides financial support for Girl Scout activities. She is a member of the Real Property Lawyers Association and the Oklahoma Bar Association.
